  the wt society pointed to 1975 as the date for the end of the world.

  when the date came and went they changed their publications to remove themselves from the fiasco.

  need proof?

  Scans of WT vs. bound volume: Paul saying work finished "by end of 20th century" changed to "in our time"

  hello, looking for the actual scans.... i have looked through the search function here on jwn but can't find the actual scans of the magazine that states something like: "paul said that this preaching work will be finished by the end of the 20th century" and then scans of the bound volume of that same issue where the wording is changed to something like: "paul said that the preaching work will be finished in our day".

  there are the direct quotes available in the jwn search but i'd really like to have the actual scans of the pages.. does anyone have the pdfs that they could post?.

  my jw mom was ripping on the mormons for changing their doctrine in printed word the other day... so this would be interesting to have on hand if she brings stuff like that up again.. thanks!.

  i've had some people in the congregation lately try to give me pep talks to encourage me not to give up.. when i mention (not to everyone of course) some of the things that bother me about the org, many times they can't come up with a legitimate answer so they make up an excuse.. for example, i mention the double standards that i saw at bethel as well as the lack of love in certain brothers.

  i get a blank stare and then an, "oh, that's because jehovah allows imperfect in the org.

  but he'll clear things up when it's time.".

  if the governing body was truly convinced themselves of the impending disaster and the fact that the end is imminent would they not focus their efforts in spreading the message through effective means such as telephone, television, internet, social networks etc?

  i got a text message from a jw, she just send me a picture of a white bearded man with xx beer on the table.

  the title of the picture is "i don't always study my watchtower but when i do it's during the public talk.

  " i just do not know how to forward the image from the text message.

  LOL I got that picture too. It's the Dos XX guy. He advertises for beer (I think it's a Mexican beer).

  they changed the story in the spanish version !!!.

  in the spanish version, steve does not hit selma... he merely gets "furious" with her.... 12 a ella se le quedo grabada una leccion que le enseno la testigo que le daba clases biblicas: fue un dia que no tenia ganas de estudiar.

  la noche anterior habia estado discutiendo con steve y el se habia puesto furioso conmigo, asi que estaba triste y me sentia muy mal.

  The Portuguese version still says she got beat.

  Interesting that they would change that in Spanish. It really makes the story different.

  Introduction Bio

  hi everyone, i would like to introduce myself and tell my story.

  from the standpoint of being one of jehovahs witnesses, my whole family is deeply involved as i was the 5th generation of witness and any children that my brothers or sister have will be the sixth generation.

  as some of my brothers and sisters are grandparents, i guess that makes their grandchildren a potential 7th generation.

  JakeM2012 - That was awesome! It was written in such an expressive and honest way. Truly enjoyable.

  Based on your telling, I am younger than you are and therefore was not around for the 75 predictions and problems immediately following that. So it's nice to read a little piece of history regarding what happened during that time. Thank you for sharing your side.

  Reading experiences like this keeps building my confidence that if and when I break ties with the JWs, I will have made the right decision, because it's been constantly time tested and proved true, by plenty of people.

  I wish you and your wife the best in your future endeavors without the influence of the WTBTS.

  How to counter a stupid illustration in the Bible Teach Book

  the bible teach book uses the example of a math teacher who is challenged by a student who disagrees on how to resolve a math problem.

  the teacher then lets him attempt to prove his point knowing that he can only fail.

  the object of the exercise is to show the rest of the students that the teacher is right - that there is only one way to resolve the math problem....this is likened to jehovah letting satan exercise his power over the world so that the entire universe can witness his failure and that only jehovah's ways lead to happiness.... instead of maths, what if the teacher taught chemistry and a student would want to prove that the teacher is wrong when he says that certains chemicals can't be mixed without causing an explosion that would wipeout the school...would any sane, responsible, loving teacher allow such a student to experiment and wipeout the whole class just so the teacher can prove he was right?
